Never trust a stranger who claims a dog is harmless. All too often, a dog owner claims an aggressive dog does not bite and then it does.
A neighboring aggressive dog tore off our 11-year old client Victoria Barne’s finger in January 2013 in Desoto, Texas. Before the dog attack, Barnes approached her neighbor to exchange pleasantries. The neighbor retrieved his pit bull dog, desiring to show it off. As the leashed pit bull dog jolted toward Barnes, the neighbor assured her the dog was not aggressive. The pit bull again jolted toward Barnes. The owner’s proximity to Barnes allowed the dog reached her. It tore off her finger and bit her abdomen. Attorney Stone reached a $240,000 settlement with the homeowner. Barnes pocketed $178,073.
We hear dog owners claim their dogs are not aggressive all of the time
As dog bite attorneys, we pride ourselves on holding reckless dog owners accountable. State laws on accountability for dog attacks differ.
So call us when you were promised the aggressive dog would not harm you and then it does. And call is if homeowners in your neighborhood routinely allow their aggressive dog to escape and it attacks.
